next came a stint at mulberry

as he introduces his newest offering for Coach
He's the man who redefined notions of what a bag could be (the Mulberry Bayswater, Luella Gisele, Givenchy Pumpkin? All his). Now Stuart Vevers is reinventing Coach starting with, you guessed it, a new It bag.
In case you doubted it, coming up with an It bag is quite tricky. It took Stuart Vevers and his team at Coach six months, including three days at a small hotel by a stream in upstate New York, to finesse the Rogue to his satisfaction ('I said to the other four designers, we're not leaving here until we've got it').
It's a fine, endearingly chunky bag in earth coloured, pebble textured leathers. 'A classic for cool girls and a cool bag for classic customers,' as Vevers succinctly describes it, with its contrasting suede interior, robust zips, luggage handles, twin straps that can be worn over the shoulder, edges that are painted rather than turned and stitched and a catchy name. Such are the details that count among the world's bag cognoscenti, whose numbers swell each season.
When they'd finally got it right, Vevers felt a tingling in his stomach, a sure sign Fake Louis Vuitton Replica Bags that he had a future hit on his hands. He has the same sensation about a kick ass moccasin creeper in his new spring/summer collection. He has form for hits and Its, beginning with the Gisele, which he designed with Luella Bartley for Mulberry in 2002 one of the first bags to create a mania. He's still bemused, however, when merchandise departments say, 'Could Designer Louis Vuitton Replica Handbags you just design an It bag?' Yet he understands the drive. Shortly after he arrived as creative director in 2013, Coach, battered by repeat incursions into its mid priced territory from the likes of Michael Kors, Tory Burch and Kate Spade, closed 70 of its stores. No pressure, then.
To date, more than 20,000 Rogues, at around 750 each, have sold, helping to propel Coach out of a sluggish few years into a perkiness that bucks current trends a new flagship, nattily called The Coach House, has high quality replica handbags china just opened on London's Regent's Street.
Currently it's a crane fest out there, which means that from his glass box on the 14th floor, Vevers still has electrifying views over the Hudson, as well as of his immediate team out on the main floor. 'It's as important that they can see what I'm up to, as much as for me to see them. This is a collaborative affair.'
It couldn't be more open or more American, a salient point, keenly absorbed by the Jaffa Cake orange haired, Doncaster born, Carlisle raised Vevers, who, apart from his impeccable teeth (the fruits of the NHS rather than one of those ritzy dentists on the Upper East side), still looks and sounds as (northern) British as they come. This is the man, after all, who chose to study fashion at Westminster College after seeing one high quality designer replica handbags wholesale of its graduates, a young Christopher Bailey, interviewed on The Clothes Show.
Reinterpreting theCoach archives for a new audience
Sometimes it takes an outsider to recognise a brand's assets. Launched in 1941 by six leather craftsmen as Manhattan Leather Bags, by 1962 Coach was helmed by Bonnie Cashin, a pioneer of American sportswear who introduced a novel turn lock to the bag and minted scores of modern classics. Ali MacGraw's saddlebag in the fabulously well aaa replica designer handbags styled 1970 film Love Story? Coach, obviously. Yet it seemed to Vevers when he arrived at the brand that the archives hadn't properly been studied for years. That's why he has installed a giant inflatable dinosaur in his office. Playful, historic and now a highly crafted bag charm, Rexy is a symbol of Coach's past and future.
Not that he wanted the job initially. As creative director of Loewe, the Spanish replica louis vuitton bags luxury leather goods house, he had a very nice life in Madrid, with proper, Spanish friends, including Mara Pags, the flamenco dancer. 'Ooh they were very high level, I'll have you know,' he laughs. It is a fact of business life that once you agree to meet a head hunter, you generally get enthused about the new offer. Or at least that's how it was with Vevers. 'I flung myself into this proposal, being really bold, never Fake Louis Vuitton Replica Bags thinking I'd get it and at some point during the research I thought, "Oh shit, I've fallen in love with the brand."' Subconsciously, perhaps he was looking for change after all.
Once installed in New York, he replica louis vuitton bags from china had to enact his radical new vision, which included introducing high fashion ready to wear to a label that had almost no history of selling clothes, and had acquired a reputation for being somewhat staid. It was a risky strategy, not least because fashion is so fickle. 'On the other hand, it meant we were guaranteed column inches for our runway shows,' he says, pragmatically. So it turned out. The spring/summer 2017 show, played out against a pile up of rusting classic automobiles, featured black studded leather Perfectos, sprigged 'Sunday Best in the Deep South' dresses, Elvis images and a teeny leather bag entitled the Dinky (a brand must have tiny bags to sell in Asia, apparently). It looked cool and a bit naughty more Laura Dern than Laura Ingalls.
The Coach woman? 'Bucketfuls of attitude, but not necessarily young'
While Vevers has a pin sharp template of the kind of personality he's appealing to at Coach, he's not setting an age limit on her: 'She has a bucketful of attitude, but she's not necessarily young.' A neat, single breasted leather coat with heart shaped studs is a modern classic, he points out. And there are plenty more variations on it some sleeveless, some like ponchos 1:1 replica handbags along with chic leather trimmed, mustard coloured suede shift dresses, with leather flower appliqus.
As so eloquently laid out earlier, he is not one for number crunching, and he knows that on paper, ready to wear is a tiny part of this giant business, but a key one in setting tone. Celebrities are carrying Coach bags again and wearing its clothes. Kate Moss was at the Coach menswear show in London while Emma Roberts, Chlo Grace Moretz, Winona Ryder and Millie Bobby Brown, the fake louis bag 12 year old star of Stranger Things were front row in September. Oh, as was Vevers' 70 something mum, who loved it. Even taking into account the transactional nature of some front rows, that's a dream line up, both in terms of age and cool.
Accidental beginnings as fashion's Discount Replica Louis Vuitton Bags It maker
high quality designer replica handbags The way he tells it, he became a go to man for cool almost by accident. He nearly didn't get his first fashion job at Calvin Klein. Aged 21, his college tutor refused to put him forward for it with good reason, since Vevers' portfolio at that point was a riot of pink playfulness, hardly a natural fit with Calvin Klein's minimalism. Vevers turned up to the interview regardless, and begged. 'When I think how my life might have turned out if I hadn't done that It's like Sliding Doors.' He was directed towards the accessories department, still a sidelined outpost at many fashion brands in the mid 1990s and full, he says, of demotivated designers. For Vevers however, a slough is always an opportunity.
https://kithet20367.blogspot.com/2021/07/both-are-simple-and-just-good-food-and.html At 23 he was recruited to head Bottega Veneta, then a small artisanal label in Milan. 'Because I was young and British, they thought I knew everyone in London. They said, "get us a cool stylist", and I'd been to see Katy Grand [then editor of Dazed Confused and arguably the coolest editor in town at that point] to show her my work and she'd been very nice, so I recommended her'
He was fired, he says frankly, when Tom Ford acquired the company during his stewardship of Gucci Group, but picked up by Julien Macdonald, who was briefly creative director at Givenchy. When Macdonald was sacked (this is a brutal industry), Vevers moved seamlessly to Louis Vuitton, where Marc Jacobs taught him 'more, than any other single person. I saw what being a creative director meant. Marc's attention to detail We would spend hours discussing a zip.' Next came a stint at Mulberry, this time as creative boss (he launched the hugely popular transparent Roxanne tote), then a move to head Loewe. He stayed for five years.
https://kithet20367.blogspot.com/2021/07/both-are-simple-and-just-good-food-and.html It's quite a CV of top international brands. In a 20 year career, he has spent only four in the UK, yet he remains self deprecating, funny and down to earth. Although his friend Jonathan Saunders recently installed in New York as creative director of DVF told me that Vevers' first piece of advice was to pass him the number of a lifestyle manager. Really? 'Well, you start work early in this city and finish late. I was used to European hours so I needed some help sorting out the rest of my life,' he grins.

That seems to be going well. At 43, and almost ostentatiously boyish, he walks to work from his West Village home along the High Line, which gives him precious thinking time. His grasp of the zeitgeist is not confined by the limiting filter of cool; he is more focused on analysing how luxury and status are being reinterpreted. 'Sometimes at European brands you get the sense they're piling on details and workmanship to justify the elevated prices a traditional "luxury" name should charge. That seems very outdated. You can produce in China [as Coach does] and with know how get a really well made object. Owning a Coach bag isn't about showing off that you paid a crazy price, but that you didn't. That's the new status and I love how democratic it is.'.
